Summer Daze

Hi everyone,

If you aren't quite sure that you can pull off neon-bright colors or just feel a bit too bold wearing them try wearing them with neutrals as opposed to black, it softens the look.  Also if you want you can keep the makeup quick and easy to keep the look effortless-looking and fun.  Who doesn't want to look effortlessly good?

Do you wear neon colors?

The Unspoken Rules of NYC Life

Hi everyone,

For those of you who don't know I live in NYC, Brooklyn to be exact and I have lived here all my life (but I do love traveling).  I've learned a few things about how to get by in a big city.  I often think that it is pretty simple, but when I see the confused faces of tourists I am reminded that it may not be.  I'm putting this list together so that when you travel to a big city NY for example you don't have a confused look on your face (the tourist face).  Also these tips not only help out you but other commuters, making everyone's life easier.  The key here is be conscientious and be aware!  Many of these tips are common sense especially if you have been any sort of city before.   Here are the unspoken rules of Big City Life:

  • Keep Moving.  This helps everyone out!  I can't stand when people just stop in the middle of traffic.  If you need to stop and talk to some one or check your phone move to the side please.  Tourists aren't the only ones who break this rule but they are often big offenders.  Also keep up with traffic do not walk slow if everyone seems to be rushing around you.
  • Take the path of least resistance when necessary.  If you've ever been on a crowded block you probably notice that eventually two rows form, one way going towards you and one away from you (the direction you are walking).  Do not get on the wrong row it is just common courtesy.  Also I'd like to make this point.  When a train is coming people tend to run for it please move to the side, people should do the same for you.
  • Allow people to get off the train before you get on.
  • Plan your trip before venturing out.  Ok the MTA is always having some type of repair schedule going on which results in train reroutings and/or delays, especially on weekends.  Check the MTA website www.mta.info to help you plan a trip and check the train situation.  Also there are many apps that help out too.  Don't expect yourself to be a seasoned train rider in a couple days (be fair to yourself).
  • If you are nervous or alone do not ride in the first or last cars of the train.  Many tourists have faces of sheer horror when they see homeless people or anything they aren't used to.  It is a good rule (that I follow) to stay out of secluded cars, because they are often secluded for a reason.
  • Do not take out laptops or tablets on the train.  It might get stolen, it might not but why take the chance.  Also the train may become so crowded it might get bumped out of your hands.
  • Do not take up more room than you need to.  It is obvious that everyone in the city is pressed for space (pun not intended).  Do not take up extra room when you sit on the train.  Do not lean on the train pole stopping others from holding it.  Try to shrink yourself up as much as possible, without being completely uncomfortable of course!
  • Carry cash.  There are many street vendors that sell nice and unique items also if you plan to buy from a food cart carrying cash is very helpful.  But if you are running low you can always find a bank nearby.
I hope these tips weren't too intimidating!  Also don't be scared of New Yorkers.  New York is not as menacing as shown in the movies. Ask a question if you are lost.

Anyone planning a trip this Summer?

1 Shirt, 3 Different Ways

Hi everyone,

I am usually not much of a T-shirt wearer.  I used to wear T-shirts much more often but I have kind of relegated them to "lazy days" since around half way through high school.  Lately I have been seeing some cute outfits with T-shirts (cropped); which are starting to give me second thoughts about T-shirts (could this be because we are rapidly being drowned in a sea of crop tops?).  I might pull out some of my old shirts and style them in ways I haven't really thought of before.   I don't really expect T-shirts to become my signature but it might add some variety to my usual outfits.

Here are some cute ways to style a relaxed fit crop top:

Which one is your fave?  I do you style a T-shirt?

Lets Chat #17

Hi everyone,

Its been a bit rainy in NY these days.  Rainy Summer days are super humid! But I would take a rainy summer day to a frigid day of winter rain any day.  Rainy days may seem like a day wasted but here are some activities that are fun for rainy days, just in case you are don't know what to do; sometimes when you are bored all you need is a little reminder of the fun things you can be doing.

So here is a bit of a random list of things to do in your house (when you don't want to go out and spend):

  • Read a book
  • Search for new music
  • Cook something delicious
  • Watch an old movie
  • Through a random get together (if your friends are free).
  • Clean (it may not be fun but at least you won't be bored).
  • Get to work on those Summer resolutions.
  • Work-out.
  • Blog :)
Do you mind rainy days?

Coral Lips!

Hi everyone,

I'm really happy you enjoyed my last post.  Almost everyone who commented expressed their love for the Tory Burch lipstick.  Because of all of your comments you have inspired me to make a post focusing on a shade of a very versatile variety- say that five times fast (I'm feeling kind of silly today so just bear with me).  And that shade is... coral!  Ok I'm pretty sure that you have heard of coral colored things before and I have mentioned it a couple times on my blog.  But what on earth is a coral shade anyway?  The words coral lipstick are almost as ambiguous as nude lipstick, in the sense that everyone has their own definition.  Well I am going to show you the two shades that come to my mind when I think of coral:  The mild kind and the hot kind (kind of like hot sauce).  I guess that is the best way to describe it because after all, there is a mild shade (less orange and a bit more pink)  and and intense (orange-red) shade.

Coral is perfect for Summer and it can be worn by all skin tones.

Here is how to wear the shade:
If you are planning on going for an intense lip try to keep your eye makeup on the more subdued side unless you are going to a party.

Below are inspiration for Light, Olive, Medium, and Dark skin tones:

Which shade do you prefer mild or intense?

Thanks everyone who inspired me to make this post!
That reminds me.  If you have any suggestions or post ideas don't hesitate to share!

Summer Makeup Ideas

Hi everyone,

The weather is heating up and pretty soon it is going to be hot hot!  Summer is not a very encouraging time to wear makeup.  Your eyeliner travels giving you an unintentional smokey eye.  If you wear foundation you may feel like your wearing a mask and you need to breathe (this is not advisable by the way)!  Also don't get me started on the oiliness!  Well since summer is soon approaching to dash all of your makeup dreams, be ready.  This summer keep it simple-ish, you'll see what I mean in a second.

Here are some tips:

  1. If you are afraid of your eyeshadow getting wild go for soft natural colors ( because when it messes up it is not as exaggerated).  Or go for a high quality (most likely expensive) brand that lives up to it's promises and won't crease.
  2. Easy on the foundation.  I know a flawless face is something that we all dream about  (if you don't already have it), but it is worth skipping a full face of makeup for the sake of your skin.  If you do want to wear foundation focus on problem areas only.  Or go for a powder kind.
  3. Since you aren't wearing that much foundation this summer (if you heed my warning) you can still add a bit of color to your cheeks with a bronzer or blush.
  4. Eyeliner... I've already mentioned what a pain this usual favorite can be in the formula.  For it to beat the heat (and not melt away), try a waterproof formula or liquid liner.  Also you can try fun summer colors like the ones above!
  5. Lips... now it the time to bring out the fun colors!  :)

You don't have to follow all of these tips at once especially if you aren't planning on wearing much makeup or any at all (good for you).  I know these are basic tips but sometimes we need a reminder!

That Dress!

Hi everyone,

I know that everyone has that piece in their wardrobe that they run to whenever they don't know what else to wear or want to feel comfortable.  This post is about something you run to when you want to feel fancy...The Little Black Dress (LBD).  Don't confuse a black dress with an LBD.  An LBD need not be trendy; it should be classic, versatile.  If you don't already own one (gasp) look for one that is flattering to your figure and you feel comfortable in it!   A good LBD is loyal and will never let you down.

Here are two looks for you:
