Modern Disney Princess: Snow White

Hi guys,

It's time we focus on the first ever Disney Princess, *drum roll*..... Snow White.  Snow White was created in 1937.  FYI the second Disney Princess was Cinderella (1950) followed by Sleeping Beauty(1959).

And just because Snow White was the first Disney Princess, I'm going to include some movie posters:

Lets Chat #11: Back to Class

Hi guys,

I'm a bit sad, but my days of Winter vacation are coming to an end.  I always think that whenever I am on any sort of break I will have an extraordinary amount of time to do whatever I want, it rarely works out that way, the days are too short.  I'm going to have to get back to my studies.  I had a great time starting off my new series "Modern Disney Princess" and will certainly find a way to squeeze blogging into what will quickly become a very busy schedule, (even if that means squeezing it into study breaks).  I don't want to go back but I'm just going to have to suck it up and go.

Well hopefully it will be the start of a great semester.  I have to admit I am looking forward to wearing the clothes I got for Christmas.  I am looking forward to my Neuroscience class (yes I am a nerd).  I am still in disbelief that this is the beginning of my second semester of Sophomore year, I'm one step closer to getting a degree but I still feel very young at heart.  When I was younger I always thought people in college would be very serious, boy was I wrong.  I thought I would be trapped in a room full of people with no sense of humor or the extreme opposite the "extreme party animals", neither crowd suits me; luckily, there is a middle ground.  This idea was based off of movies (which are usually lies).  The most serious thing is the work.  If you are starting college soon, remember that!

How do you feel when you go back to class/work?

Lets Chat #10: Missing the Warm weather

Hi guys,

I don't know about you, but I am really beginning to miss the warm weather.  Here in New York everyone is snowed in, at times like these, you start missing summer; I especially miss the beach.  New York isn't really the coldest of climates at all but I am not big fan of cold weather.

Originally I was going to list all of the things I love about Summer but that would be too depressing (especially because Summer isn't going to be here for a while).  I'll save that post for when Summer is around the corner.  For now I'll just say this:  I can't wait until its warmer so I can wear a loose fitting T-shirt and some shorts and head out to the beach!  I'd also like to show off some cute rings instead of having to wear gloves!

For now I guess I'm going to have to find a way to enjoy the cold.  At least I get to sit by my fireplace and drink some tea  as the snow falls!

How is the weather where you are at?

Modern Disney Princess: Ariel

Hi guys,

I'm having tons of fun doing these posts and putting together these outfits.  I hope you like them!
Up next... Princess Ariel.

I realized that Ariel has a ton of outfits to chose from!

I decided to go for something unexpected and modify the "rag dress" and make it formal.  I actually really like how it turned out.  :)

Modern Disney Princess: Pocahontas

Hi guys,

Shout out to Confassion who requested I do Pocahontas next!
Now Pocahontas is one of the more unique Disney princesses.  First off she was drawn completely different, (because she is of a different race than the previous princesses).  Second of all, her prince charming came to her.  Third, she has an athletic build.  Just look at those legs!

Since Pocahontas only wore one outfit in the movie I got to use my imagination.  I kept a blue statement necklace in both outfits because I felt it was crucial to the look.

2 Great Body Lotions for Winter

Hi guys,

It's freezing cold again and you know what that means... dry skin.  During the winter it is super important to moisturize your body, face, hands and feet.  In this post I'll informally review two body lotions.
When I need a body lotion to get the job done, I summon these two...

Both of these lotions have no scent.  They are very heavy, probably too heavy for Summer months.  I find the Eucerin lotion a bit heavier than the Lubiderm. I love these lotions because they absorb quickly and leave the skin smooth and leave your skin with a silky-satiny finish.

I use these lotions when I am fresh out of the shower to lock in moisture (this makes the product more effective).  Also I apply lotion to my feet then slip on socks, doing this allows the lotion to sink in.

Here's a quick tip:
If your feet are extra-dry use vaseline then put socks on although your feet will be slippery they will soften.  Try this on cracked heels.

Got a favorite lotion? I'd love to hear about it!

Modern Disney Princess: Cinderella

Hi guys,

Here is your next post in the series: Cinderella.  Cinderella had it rough growing up; her revenge, finding a way to make rags and an apron look cool and of course marrying a prince.  There is no doubt that Cinderella is one of the most famous if not the most famous Disney princess.
Cinderella in rags... not too shabby.  Here is my take:

For the updated version I wanted to keep a bit of the sparkles but change up the length.  I also did away with the sleeves and gloves.  I really liked the choker and of course I had to keep the glass slipper. For the shoe I wanted to make it more modern but still keep the effect so I chose this shoe from Stuart Weitzman that features small pearls in front.

Modern Disney Princess: Belle

Hi guys,

Woohoo! First post in the series!  I decided to start with Belle because I was obsessed with her for a while (like I was for many other Disney princesses).  She is still awesome!  I remember when I went to go see the musical of Beauty and the Beast live on Broadway.  Sadly I think that they are no longer showing it. :(

Remember when I said I will make a casual and formal outfit for each princess.  Belle already has both, so I'm just going to make them a bit more modern. By the way...don't you just love her formal half-up- do?

Yes... I know I took a lot of liberties when putting together the formal outfit, but it needed major updating.  I wanted to stay true to the color family without making it too striking and keep the flare skirt.  And of course she would wear her fabulous half up-do!

New Series: Modern Disney Princess

Hi guys,

Here's the series I was talking about!  I know you have probably seen people make tons of fan art featuring Disney Princesses.  I'm going to make this series about my take on a "modern" Disney princess (hence the title).   Unlike the "Most Wonderful Time" series this series  will be more ongoing.  Each post will feature two outfits.  One outfit will be casual, the other formal.

Any requests? (I can also do non-princess Disney characters).

Let's Chat #9: Another New Series

Hi guys,

I hinted at the fact that I was going to make a new series to kick off this year a couple posts ago.  I had so much fun blogging last year and I have been thinking of this idea for a while and I think it will be pretty fun!

I am putting together posts for the series right now, but for now I'll leave you with this

Excited? I know I am!

DIY Lipgloss

Hi guys,

Woohoo, this is the first post of the new year!

Have you ever wanted to make your own lip gloss? Not only is this a cheaper alternative to buying lip glosses/butters it is fun; and because you are making it yourself, it is completely customizable.

I made my own lip gloss out of:
  • bright eyeshadow (that I never used)
  • Cocoa butter
  • Vaseline
Here are the steps I took:
  • In a small bowl I mixed cocoa butter and Vaseline.  At this step you can choose just how glossy you want your lip gloss to be by using varying amounts of Vaseline.  If you do not want your lip gloss glossy at all you may want to skip Vaseline all together.  On the other-hand if you want a very glossy lip gloss I suggest leaving at least some cocoa butter in because it helps hold pigment
  • Heat the mixture until melted.
  • Pour in eyeshadow until the mixture is one uniform color.  Here you get to choose how pigmented your gloss is by choosing the amount of color you add.
  • Pour the mixture into an empty lip gloss pot (you can use and old one or purchase them).  If your mixture has solidified by this point, you may want to reheat it just a bit to make getting it into the container easier.
  • Allow mixture to cool.  At this point you may want to name your lip gloss.  My friend came up with the name "Passion Fruit Spice", and I just went with it.
If you do not have a bright eyeshadow to use as your pigment you may want to use:
  •  lip stick (maybe one that is already broken)
  • food coloring
Another idea: if you want your lip gloss to be flavored  you may want to add a bit of a food extract such as vanilla.

Have fun!
